    Common Name: Spider Plant

    Native to tropical South Africa, the Spider Plant is known for its cascading green-and-cream striped leaves and its ability to produce baby “pups” on long trailing stems. Fun fact: it was one of the original houseplants sent to space by NASA, thanks to its air-purifying abilities and resilience.

    Light Guide

    Spider Plants thrive in bright, indirect light, but they’re also very tolerant of lower light levels. In UAE homes, they do well in rooms with natural daylight or filtered sunlight - just avoid placing them in strong, direct sun, which can bleach the striped leaves.
    Watering

    Water when the top 2–3cm of soil feels dry. Spider Plants like a moderate watering routine - not too wet, not too dry. If you’re using a self-watering pot, it will help maintain steady moisture levels without overdoing it. Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water.
    Temperature & Humidity

    This plant prefers indoor temperatures between 18–28°C and adapts easily to air-conditioned spaces in the UAE. While it tolerates normal indoor humidity well, it may develop brown leaf tips in very dry air - occasional misting or a nearby pebble tray can help.
    Ongoing Care

    Remove any brown or dry tips with clean scissors, cutting along the leaf’s natural shape. Wipe the leaves now and then to keep them looking fresh. As your plant grows, you may see baby spiderettes - these can be left to trail or snipped off and propagated in water.
