Originating from the tropical and subtropical forests of India and Southeast Asia, this cultivar of Rex Begonia is admired for its velvety, dark burgundy leaves and silvery-pink highlights. It brings serious drama to any shelf or side table. Fun fact: while it looks high-maintenance, Begonia Black Forest is surprisingly adaptable indoors - if you get the watering right.

Light Guide

Begonia Black Forest prefers bright, indirect light, but it doesn’t like direct sun, which can scorch or bleach its richly coloured leaves. In UAE homes, it’s happiest near a window with sheer curtains or in a bright room with soft daylight.

Watering

Keep the soil lightly moist, but never soggy. Let the top 2-3cm dry out between waterings, and avoid splashing water on the leaves to prevent spotting. If you’re using one of our self-watering pots, keep the reservoir filled and allow the plant to draw up moisture from below - this helps maintain even hydration and keeps the foliage pristine.

Temperature & Humidity

Begonias thrive in temperatures between 20-26°C, making them well suited to indoor life in the UAE. They appreciate moderate humidity and don’t love dry air, so try to keep them away from strong A/C vents. Occasional misting (away from the leaves) or placing a tray of pebbles with water nearby can help.

Ongoing Care

Gently remove any yellowing or crispy leaves from the base. Wipe the surface of healthy leaves lightly with a dry, soft cloth to keep them dust-free and velvety. With the right balance of water, light, and airflow, Begonia Black Forest will reward you with stunning foliage that gets better over time.
