    Common Name: Chinese Money Plant

    Native to the Yunnan province of China, this quirky little plant is also known as the “Chinese Money Plant.” It’s famous for its coin-shaped leaves and fast-growing pups. Fun fact: it was mostly passed between friends through cuttings before becoming widely available.

    Pilea loves bright, indirect light. It does best near a window where it gets plenty of natural daylight, but not direct sun - too much can scorch the rounded leaves. In a UAE apartment, a bright spot with filtered light is ideal.
    Watering

    Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Pilea doesn’t like to stay too wet, so it’s best to let the soil dry slightly between waterings. If you’re using one of our self-watering pots, just keep the reservoir filled - it’ll help provide steady moisture while protecting against overwatering.
    Temperature & Humidity

    This plant thrives in indoor temperatures between 20-28°C and does well in air-conditioned homes. It prefers moderate humidity but is generally tolerant of the drier indoor air common in the UAE. Just keep it out of cold drafts or directly in front of A/C vents.
    Ongoing Care

    Rotate your Pilea regularly to help it grow evenly - it naturally leans toward the light. Wipe the leaves gently to remove dust, and trim off any older or yellowing leaves from the base. With time, you may spot baby “pups” emerging from the soil, which can be gently separated and repotted to grow new plants.
