Botanical Name: Goeppertia Insignis (formerly Calathea Lancifolia)
Common Name: Rattlesnake Plant

Native to the rainforests of Brazil, the Rattlesnake Plant gets its name from the bold, wavy leaf patterns that resemble rattlesnake skin - deep green tops with a rich purple underside. Like other prayer plants, its leaves rise and fall with the light throughout the day. Fun fact: despite its dramatic patterning, this plant is non-toxic and pet-friendly.

The Rattlesnake Plant prefers bright, indirect light and can also tolerate moderate light. In UAE apartments, a spot near a window with filtered sunlight works well - just avoid direct sun, which can cause leaf burn or fading of the purple undersides.

Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, allowing the top 2–3cm to dry out between waterings. This plant dislikes both drying out and soggy roots, so balance is key.
