Originally from the forest floors of Japan and Taiwan, the Cast Iron Plant earned its name thanks to its resilience - able to tolerate low light, irregular watering, and neglect without complaint. Its tall, upright leaves create a clean, architectural look. Fun fact: it was a popular houseplant in Victorian parlours, where it survived even the darkest, dustiest corners.

The Cast Iron Plant prefers low to medium, indirect light, and is especially well-suited for low-light spots that most other houseplants wouldn’t tolerate. In UAE apartments, it thrives in shaded corners, hallways, or away from direct windows. Avoid strong, direct sun - it can scorch the deep green leaves.

Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out between waterings. This plant is drought-tolerant and dislikes being overwatered. A self-watering pot works well for this slow-growing plant - just top up the reservoir occasionally and let the soil dry between refills.
